Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson has ended his eight-year stay at Manchester City after sealing a permanent move to Turkish club Fenerbahce.
The 32-year-old, who joined City from Benfica in 2017 for £35m, made 372 appearances and played a key role in winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and the Champions League.
Fenerbahce agreed to pay £12.1m for the shot-stopper, who is leaving as one of the most decorated goalkeepers in the club’s history.
Speaking about his exit, Ederson said, “I leave Manchester City incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, and I am honoured to have worn the shirt so many times. Under Pep, we have dominated the Premier League and conquered Europe. It has been amazing.”
During his time in England, Ederson recorded 122 clean sheets in 276 Premier League matches and even provided seven assists, an unusual feat for a goalkeeper.
City have already lined up a replacement, agreeing to sign Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris St-Germain in a £26m deal on a five-year contract.
Ederson’s departure marks the end of an era for Pep Guardiola’s side, as fans remember his calm presence, quick reflexes, and passing ability that transformed City’s play from the back.
