The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Adaku Uche-Anya, has cautioned officers of the command against extortion and other unprofessional conduct during the yuletide season.

Ms Uche-Anya issued the warning in her Christmas message delivered on Wednesday in Abakaliki.

She advised officers to remain courteous and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities throughout the festive period.

“You must eschew all forms of extortion and corruption; do not use your duty posts as a means of extortion, and ensure an effective supervision of your subordinates,” she said.

The police commissioner also directed that existing security deployments across the state should be reinforced to ensure the safety and security of residents during the celebrations.

Ms Uche-Anya further urged officers to strengthen community engagement, remain approachable, and build public trust to improve intelligence gathering and cooperation.

“The command, through this medium, wishes to warn members of the public against the use of fireworks during this festive season due to their attendant dangers, including fire outbreaks and panic caused by explosive sounds.

“The burning of tyres on roads is strictly prohibited, while masquerade activities must not infringe on the rights of others or obstruct the road during performances,” she warned.

She reiterated the command’s preparedness to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.

“You should promptly report any suspicious activities or incidents to the nearest police station or via the command’s control room on 07064515001,” she added.
