The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has indefinitely suspended Uchenna Igwe, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, over alleged gross misconduct and neglect of duty.

Nwifuru announced the suspension during a press briefing at the New Government House, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki.

The governor stated that Igwe failed to handle a critical assignment concerning the payment of pensions to local government retirees.

“This administration is serious about delivering on the people’s charter of needs, and we cannot condone negligence,” Governor Nwifuru explained.

The suspension of Igwe brings the total number of commissioners recently sanctioned by the governor to four.

Last month, the governor indefinitely suspended the commissioners for housing and urban development, and water resources, while the health commissioner received a three-month suspension for similar allegations of dereliction of duty and misconduct.

Nwifuru emphasized that his administration is focused on ensuring effective governance and meeting the expectations of Ebonyi residents.

“Our government remains committed to ensuring accountability among public office holders, as this is key to achieving our development goals,” he said.
