The union also urged Christians to pray to God in this Easter season for an end to the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world.
The call was made in a statement on Friday jointly signed by the Vice President of the zone, Mr. Cosmas Oni, and Secretary, Bamigbola Gbolagunte.
The NUJ Zone B comprised of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti State chapters of the union.
In its goodwill message, the union called on all Christian leaders across the country to obey all directives of the government regarding COVID -19 as they celebrated Easter.
” Christians should also imbibe the character of Jesus Christ whose resurrection they celebrate at Easter by being obedient to the authorities.
” Easter signifies the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, hence, the need for all and sundry to respect the teachings of Jesus Christ which include respect for constituted authorities.
“We must at this trying time pray to God to heal our land; Easter brings us such an opportunity to pray to God.
” Let’s all seek the face of God and ask for the mercy of the Lord at this perilous time in our history.
“Everyone must come together and seek God to save us as we keep safe and maintain proper hygiene as laid down by health officials to ensure that we send COVID – 19 out of the world, ” it said.
The union urged journalists to maintain safety procedures in all their professional activities, praying that God would resurrect all that was dead in the lives of all journalists and the world at large.
