An early morning fire on Monday gutted a duplex at Lane 2, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, destroying properties.
Residents said the fire started around 2 a.m., sparking panic in the neighborhood as thick smoke rose from the building.
The Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement.
“Immediately the address was taken, a crew of fire personnel led by ACFS Adedeji promptly responded and deployed to the scene of the fire incident,” he said. “Upon arrival, it was a sitting room of a duplex residential building on fire. The firemen swiftly swung into action and curtailed and restricted the fire from spreading to other parts of the building. The fire was completely extinguished within twinkle of an eye.”
Akinwande explained that the fire was caused by an electrical surge from an unattended appliance in the sitting room.
“The fire slightly affected items in the sitting room only, and the whole building and other properties worth millions of naira were saved by the officers of the Agency,” he added.
No life was lost in the incident.
