D’Tigress beat hosts Mozambique 57-48, boost Olympic ticket chances
Nigerian women basketball team, D’Tigress, on Saturday defeated hosts of the FIBA Africa Women’s pre Olympics qualifying tournament, Mozambique, 57-48 at the Pavilhao Maxaquene.
The win increased their chances of qualifying for the 2020 Olympics.
The 2019 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket champions beat their opponents in the first quarter a 21-8, they also took the second quarter 17-11, going into the half time break 38-19 with a massive 19 points lead.
The home side took control of the second half taking the third quarter 16-8 also coming tops in the fourth quarter 13-11 but their late charge was not enough to guarantee a comeback as Nigeria qualified for the semi-final as group B winners.
D’Tigeress will face Mali in the semi-final on Sunday while Senegal play Mozambique.
The two winners in the semi-finals will automatically book their tickets to the 16-nation Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments to be hosted in China (Foshan), from February 6 to 9, 2020.
