Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has made history by reaching their first-ever quarterfinals at the Olympic Games.

On Sunday, they achieved this milestone with a 79-70 victory over Canada in their final Group B match at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The game was intense, with Nigeria coming from behind to secure the win against Canada, who are ranked fifth in the world.

D’Tigress showed remarkable resilience and skill, especially in the third quarter where they scored 23 points while holding Canada to just 5 points.

This turnaround was crucial as Nigeria had lost the second and fourth quarters.

Ezinne Kalu was Nigeria’s top scorer with 21 points. Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah led in rebounds with 7, and Promise Amukamara had the most assists with 6.

The first quarter ended in a tie, with both teams scoring 18 points each. Nigeria lost the second quarter 23-19 and the fourth quarter 24-19, but their strong performance in the third quarter made the difference.

D’Tigress had previously defeated Australia, ranked third in the world, in their opening group game.
