The Department of State Services has issued a public alert over the activities of a dismissed officer, Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, accused of using the agency’s name to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

In a statement shared on its official X handle, @OfficialDSSNG, on Sunday, the agency said Godwin, a former staff, had been engaging in “unscrupulous activities” while pretending to represent the DSS.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public of the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff. He is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities, including using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the DSS said.

The agency advised Nigerians to avoid any form of transaction or engagement with him, adding that all official enquiries and complaints should be directed to its verified communication channels.

This latest warning comes just four days after the DSS issued a similar statement cautioning the public about another dismissed officer, Barry Donald, who was also accused of impersonating the Service to carry out fraudulent acts.

Founded in 1986, the DSS serves as Nigeria’s main domestic intelligence agency, handling internal security, counterintelligence, and counterterrorism operations.
