The Department of State Services neutralized Three notorious bandits during a well-coordinated ambush in Dogon Dawa, Mairiga Local Government Area of Niger State.
Security sources revealed that several other bandits escaped into nearby bushes with bullet wounds. During the operation, the DSS recovered three AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing criminals.
The ambush was the result of weeks of intelligence gathering and analysis of intercepted communications among the bandits.
A security source explained, “The operation was one of several daring efforts by the DSS in the Northwest and Northeast, which have either neutralized or captured numerous bandits terrorizing innocent people in the zones. Similar operations have also been successful against the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra in the South-East.”
The DSS’s intelligence-sharing efforts have reportedly strengthened the military and other security agencies in tackling terrorists and reducing ambushes on security personnel.
Since the appointment of Mr. Tosin Ajayi as Director-General of the DSS by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the agency has ramped up intelligence operations.
“The DSS has been generous in sharing intelligence with the military and sister security agencies. This cooperation has significantly reduced ambushes and weakened IPOB elements in the South-East,” the source added.
A military officer, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the DSS’s invaluable contributions. “The successes recorded by the DSS, especially since the appointment of their capable Director-General, are enormous. They have been greatly assisting us in the military.
“Although most of their achievements aren’t widely reported, the DSS has reverted to the covert operations that marked their early years, focusing on effective results rather than publicity,” the officer added.
As part of his ongoing security reforms, President Tinubu last month pledged support for the DSS in adopting artificial intelligence to combat insecurity.
During an investiture ceremony for graduates of the National Institute for Security Studies’ Executive Intelligence Management Course in Abuja, Tinubu expressed confidence in the agency’s capabilities to enhance national security.
