The Department of State Services has arrested three people for attacking its officers during the recent crisis at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The unrest happened following reports that the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, was planning to forcefully return to office after his removal weeks ago.

According to security sources, some lawmakers brought supporters to the Assembly complex, where a few individuals assaulted DSS operatives who had been invited by the Assembly leadership to secure the premises.

A DSS source said, “After extensive analysis of CCTV footage, we were able to clearly identify three of the suspects.”

The arrested persons include Ibrahim Olanrewaju Abdulkareem, a photographer, and two staff members attached to the Assembly’s Sergeant-at-Arms — Adetu Adekunle Samsudeen and Adetola Oluwatosin Fatimoh. They were tracked and arrested at different locations in Lagos during the week.

“The trio have since confessed to the crime and will soon be charged to court,” the source added.

It was also revealed that a memo from the Lagos Assembly, dated February 14, 2025, was sent to the DSS Director in the state and other security agencies, warning of a possible security threat.

The memo claimed that Obasa planned to reinstate himself on February 18, 2025, leading the Assembly management to view the situation as a serious risk to lawmakers’ safety.

Security operatives were deployed to the Assembly complex to maintain peace during the tense period.
