Operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly supplying ammunition to bandit groups operating in the North-West, the agency said on Thursday.

The suspect was intercepted on Wednesday at a motor park in Kano while transporting over 200 rounds of ammunition from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Kankara in Katsina State. The consignment was believed to be destined for bandits hiding in forest areas across the region.

According to security sources, the arrest followed actionable intelligence that enabled operatives to disrupt the supply chain before delivery could be completed.

During interrogation, Usman reportedly confessed that she had been involved in the illegal trade for about two months. She allegedly revealed that the ammunition was supplied by an individual identified as “Teso,” who is said to be working with a soldier based in Lafia.

The suspect also disclosed that she had facilitated transactions worth approximately N5 million, supplying ammunition to several individuals, including a bandit leader identified as Mallam Haruna.

The DSS described the operation as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks fueling insecurity in the North-West. Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track down other members of the syndicate linked to the arms supply chain.
