A drunk uncle identified as Roger Paje has beheaded his sleeping nephew, Eduardo Rosquitos with a chainsaw and then claimed he was dreaming of cutting a coconut tree, police say.
Daily Mirror of UK reports that Paje, 48, is also accused of cutting off Rosquitos’ hand after decapitating him following an excessive drinking session.
The incident occurred in the village of Bool East, on Biliran Island, in the Philippines.
30-year-old Rosquitos reportedly died instantly and then his hands were cut off, say detectives probing the horrific case.
An eyewitness Edgardo Canete told police that he was startled out of his sleep by the sound of the chainsaw’s engine and then looked on as Rosquitos’ head was severed from his body.
Canete told detectives that Paje’s eyes were closed when he killed the victim.
Fearing for his life, terrified Canete said he jumped out of a window and ran away from the house – in the village of Bool East, on Biliran Island – in a desperate bid to raise the alarm.
The trio started drinking at about 8am on Sunday, before Rosquitos was killed about five hours later after falling asleep.
Paje was arrested when officers arrived at the bloody scene.
He told investigators he didn’t know what he was doing because he was dreaming of cutting down a coconut tree as he sawed off his nephew’s head, the Philippine Star reported.
Police recovered the chainsaw that was used to kill Rosquitos while Paje was held in custody at a local police station and will be charged with murder.
