DRUG POSSESSION! India arrests Nigerian national with N78 million worth of heroin

Indian authorities have arrested a Nigerian national for allegedly being in possession of 1.5 kg fine quality heroin that is worth around Rs 1.5 crore (about N78, 951, 522) in the international market.

35-year-old Obinna Fortune has been allegedly peddling drugs in the Capital for four months.

During interrogation, Obinna revealed that he arrived in Delhi about five months ago on a tourist visa and had been peddling drugs in the Uttam Nagar and Janakpuri areas since the past four months with his associate and fellow countryman Charles, who came to know him while residing in Uttam Nagar.

Obinna also alleged that Charles arranged for heroin to be supplied in the city, according to Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch.

” Obinna has not been able to furnish his passport yet. According to him, his passport was kept by Charles. Efforts are being made to trace Charles and locate the source of the narcotic substance,” Kumar added.

An FIR has been filed under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Foreigner Act at Police Station Crime Branch on Tuesday. Obinna has also been charged under the Indian Passport Act for not being able to furnish his passport.

Explaining the case’s details, Kumar said,

“As soon as we received the information about the accused, a team was constituted to further develop the information and to nab him. We laid a trap near Vikaspuri and apprehended him at about 5 pm on June 25.”
