The Katsina State Police Command foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued 14 passengers from armed bandits in Dan’arau village, Jibia Local Government Area, on Sunday evening.

The attack occurred along the Magama-Jibia Road when bandits opened fire on two commercial vehicles in a bid to abduct their passengers. The gunfire caused panic among the travelers.

Responding to a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Jibia LGA led a team of operatives to the scene.

The officers engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle, successfully preventing the abduction.

Fourteen individuals were rescued from the incident, though two sustained gunshot wounds.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but sadly, one of them succumbed to their injuries despite medical efforts.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing bandits and are conducting investigations to uncover further details about the attack.

Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation.

“This operation underscores our resolve to combat criminal elements and ensure the safety of all residents. We must sustain this momentum and work collectively to rid our state of crime,” he said.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities, assuring the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.

As the Police Command intensifies its efforts to track down the perpetrators, the Katsina community is reminded that combating crime requires a united front between law enforcement and the public.
