A driver has died after two trucks collided near Cane Village in the Maryland area of Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the accident, stating that it was caused by brake failure.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said in a statement on Friday, “LASEMA responded to distress calls through the 767 and 112 toll-free lines at 12:08 PM and activated the response team from Command and Control Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.”

When the team arrived at the scene, they found that a concrete mixer truck with the registration number DGW 208 XA had collided with another truck, registration number SMK 906 YE. “Investigation revealed that one of the trucks suffered brake failure, lost control, and crashed into a JUSTRITE truck, whose driver was loading items,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.

He added that the concrete mixer truck then crashed into a nearby building and hit two people in the process.

The driver of the JUSTRITE truck died instantly, while the two other victims sustained injuries and were taken to Gbagada General Hospital for treatment.

Oke-Osanyintolu also mentioned that LASEMA’s response team has implemented safety measures to protect responders at the accident scene. “Traffic control measures are in place, and we are currently managing the traffic in the area,” he said.
