A truck loaded with goods fell off the Pen Cinema bridge in Lagos on Saturday, leaving the driver with serious injuries.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said the accident happened along Agege, Old Abeokuta Road. According to a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the driver lost control of the truck while trying to navigate the bridge.

The truck, with registration number GGE 624 YJ, crashed from the bridge and landed on two commercial buses parked under it.

LASTMA officers quickly rushed to the scene, rescued the badly injured driver, and handed him over to the Elere Police Division. He was later taken to the General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for urgent treatment.

“To protect other road users and avoid more accidents, LASTMA personnel quickly secured the area by blocking it off and diverting traffic,” Taofiq said. “The LASEMA Response Unit later removed the wreckage and cleared the road for smooth traffic flow.”

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep concern over the incident. He advised all drivers, especially truck operators, to be extra careful, especially now that the rainy season has started.

He also stressed the importance of obeying road safety rules and using the new speed-limiting devices installed to prevent accidents.

Bakare-Oki wished the injured driver a quick and full recovery.
