Operatives of the Kebbi State Hisbah Board have apprehended a man who was allegedly caught hiding inside a large “Ghana-Must-Go” bag at the residence of a married woman in Birnin Kebbi.

The incident reportedly took place in the Badariya area after residents noticed unusual movements around the woman’s house late Monday night and alerted authorities.

Speaking on the development, the Director of Sharia at the board, Sirajo Kamba, said the board received information at about 12:15 a.m. that an unidentified man had allegedly entered the premises.

“The residents suspected an illicit affair contrary to Islamic teachings, hence their decision to formally notify the authority,” Kamba said.

Kamba explained that officers of the Hisbah Board immediately moved to the location to verify the report.

“Upon receiving the report, the Kebbi Hisbah Board swiftly deployed officers to investigate,” he added.

According to him, when officials arrived at the house and requested to conduct a search, the woman initially insisted that no one else was inside the residence.

“When officers arrived, they requested permission to search the house, but the woman initially denied that anyone was inside,” he said.

He stated further that the woman later permitted the search, leading to the discovery of the suspect allegedly concealed inside a large travel bag.

“When the search was eventually conducted, the man was found hiding inside a ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bag,” Kamba confirmed.

The Hisbah official disclosed that preliminary findings indicated the pair were allegedly involved in a romantic relationship, which they reportedly admitted during interrogation.

Kamba also noted that both suspects would be arraigned in court to face legal action in line with Islamic law.

Meanwhile, the Hisbah Board reiterated that it would continue to depend on information from residents to tackle suspected moral and social offences across the state.
