Reactions have trailed the appointment of young Ibrahim Mahrazu as Special Adviser on Children Development by the lawmaker representing Daura constituency, Hon. Nasir Yahya Daura.
The 17-year-old was said to be the speaker of the Children’s Parliament in Katsina State.
A statement from the office of the lawmaker revealed that his appointment was “based on the confidence in his capacity to deliver the rudiment of the office as Special Adviser”.
“We congratulate you on this great achievement and hope that you continue to render good services to Daura consistency”. The statement added
Katsina Post reported that the teenager had recently presided over a fourth plenary session held on Friday at the state’s House of Assembly Complex.
During the plenary session, the house in a unanimous decision called on the executive arm of government to without further delay roll out a working plan for the implementation of the Child Protection Law.
The appointment also seemed to generate backlash on social media where many expressed concerns over the development.
On Facebook, a certain Pastor Joseph Mshelia Jnr expressed shock over the appointment.
“What kind of tin is this now.Has he finish school. space meant 4 at least a graduate a small boy now occupying.”
Husaini Audi Umar also shared his position when he said, “This is against Labour laws. Underage for public office.”
Another worried personality that voiced his disapproval was Bashir Yusuf Bash.
“There’s nothing like sense in this appointment. He’s underage. By the way what kind of advice will he expect from 17yrs old boy. Our lawmakers need money to buy sense,” he wrote.
The lawmaker, however, was lauded by a handful of people who described his action as commendable.
One of such was Nas Muhammad who countered dissenting views, saying the young chap should be given a chance.
“He is the speaker of the States children’s Parliament. He has been advocating for the implementation of some rights of children,” he said.
He also got support from Bashir Yusuf Bash who wrote, “May God bless him, he is the speaker of KT state children parliament, he is a talented child.”
