Canadian rapper Drake’s hopes of cashing in on Anthony Joshua’s fight against Jake Paul did not go as planned.

In the early hours of Saturday, December 21, former heavyweight champion Joshua defeated the YouTuber-turned-boxer with a sixth-round knockout in their Miami, US, heavyweight showdown.

The Athletic reported that while Jake Paul surprised by lasting beyond the early rounds, Joshua’s experience in the ring ultimately proved decisive.

The British boxer dropped Paul twice in the fifth round, setting the stage for the fight’s conclusion.

Joshua then delivered a series of heavy punches in the sixth round, leaving Paul unable to continue and securing a decisive victory.

Before the bout, Drake revealed he had placed a significant wager on Paul via his Instagram story, showing he had staked $200,000 (₦296 million) on the underdog defeating Joshua.

Sharing his support, the rapper captioned the post, “Jakeyyyyy boy, lock tf in.”

Had Paul emerged victorious, Drake would have walked away with more than $1.6 million (over ₦2 billion).

In a related incident, Drake previously lost ₦451 million at the US Open after betting on Italian player Jannik Sinner, following Sinner’s victory over Alexander Bublik in the Round of 16.
