Dr Dre honoured with star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Hip-hop legend Dr. Dre was celebrated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today. The famous rapper and producer, originally from Compton, was honored in a ceremony held on Hollywood Blvd. Among the attendees were fellow rap icon Snoop Dogg, music mogul Jimmy Iovine, and radio host Big Boy.
Dr. Dre’s star, the 2,775th on the Walk of Fame, was dedicated in the recording category. In his speech, he expressed gratitude to his dedicated fans, saying, “I’m incredibly grateful for your support throughout the years. Most of us have grown up together. And at nearly 60 years old, you’re still rocking with me, and I really appreciate that.”
Known for co-founding the influential rap group N.W.A. and his acclaimed solo career, Dr. Dre has been a driving force in the hip-hop industry. He has also mentored and collaborated with other superstars like Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar.
Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Dre shared, “Pouring my whole soul and self into my passion for hip-hop led me on a pathway to an incredible career, and I’ve been fortunate enough to make a living doing exactly what I love to do.”
In addition to receiving a star, the Los Angeles City Council declared March 19 as Dre Day in the city. Dr. Dre was presented with a framed plaque to commemorate the occasion as the crowd cheered “Dre Day! Dre Day!”
The celebration follows Dr. Dre’s recent health scare in 2021, where he suffered a brain aneurysm and subsequently revealed he had experienced three strokes.
After the ceremony, Dr. Dre is scheduled to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” alongside Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent. The show will air later tonight, following Eyewitness News at 11 p.m. PST.
