Terrorists attack Katsina border town, kill DPO

A Wednesday morning terrorist attack at the Magama-Jibia border town of Katsina State has claimed the life of a Divisional Police Officer, DSP Abdullahi Rano,

According to The PUNCH, Rano who was until his death the DPO for Jibiya Local Government Area of the state was shot and killed after reportedly leading a reinforcement of the police and the Nigerian Army to engage the terrorists in a fierce shoot-out.

A yet-to-be-identified soldier was said to have been injured during the attack, according to residents.

Some other residents claimed that the terrorists first visited the house of one Haliru Mai Bakin Mai located at Magama-Jibia and abducted his wife.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the Katsina State Police Command, the force’s Spokesman SP Gambo Isah, who was unreachable was said to have posted the picture of the late DPO on his WhatsApp platform with a label ‘RIP’ on it.

A Deputy village head of Mazanya, Abubakar Sani, confirmed the attack which began at 2am.

Another opinion leader in Magama-Jibia who pleaded anonymity also confirmed the incident, adding that the situation was already calm in the town as of 9am on Wednesday, with security personnel patrolling the community.
