Borussia Dortmund have made a strong statement with the permanent signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, tying the England under-21 midfielder to a contract that runs until 2030.

The 21-year-old made 17 appearances for Dortmund during his loan spell last season, scoring once. Despite an injury that limited some of his playing time, Chukwuemeka impressed with his impact in matches, including involvement in Dortmund’s run to the Club World Cup quarter-finals.

“I’m happy Borussia Dortmund is now my footballing home. I will give everything to make sure we achieve our goals as a team,” Chukwuemeka said in a statement.

Dortmund reportedly paid around €25 million ($29 million) for Chukwuemeka. Lars Ricken, the club’s sporting director, welcomed the new arrival, saying the midfielder “further increases the quality and creativity of our attacking midfield.”

Chukwuemeka’s journey began in Austria, and he later moved to England, joining Aston Villa’s youth system before signing with Chelsea in 2022.

This transfer adds to Dortmund’s busy summer recruitment, which includes talent like Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland and Yan Couto from Manchester City. Fans are also speculating about potential arrivals such as Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino and Wolves forward Fabio Silva. Meanwhile, whispers continue about Jadon Sancho possibly returning to the Westfalenstadion.

On top of these player moves, Dortmund confirmed a contract extension for head coach Niko Kovač, who is now secured at the club until 2027.

With his home secured at Dortmund, Chukwuemeka now looks to stake his claim and contribute meaningfully to the team’s ambitions in the coming seasons.
