Dortmund CEO, Watzke, blames failed Man Utd transfer for Sancho’s poor form

Borrusia Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke has blamed Jadon Sancho’s poor form on the Manchester United summer transfer saga.

Recall that the 20-year-old was a subject of a failed move to Old Trafford during the summer after both clubs failed to agree on a deal with Dortmund valuing the youngster who netted 17 goals and 17 assists last season at €120 million.

However, ESPN, quoting unnamed sources, said that United offered €95m for Sancho who remained at the Bundesliga club where his contract expires in 2023.

After the England international ended his goal drought of 1,298 minutes in a 2-0 win against Wolfsburg Sunday due to struggle from the start of the 2020/21 season Watzke said that Sancho has “subconsciously” left the club after being linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer.

“It was signalled that the fee offer would be paid in instalments over several years,” Watzke said. “It was all a theoretic discussion from then on.

“Maybe Jadon had subconsciously prepared for a move a bit. I believe he at least thought about it that much that he lost a bit of his ease, but for weeks now I found him trying very hard.

“I think he needs two, three goals and this could boost his form straight away. He still is one of the greatest talents there is.”

Meanwhile, with the January transfer window already opened, Sancho is reportedly still a target for United but popular sports journalist, Fabrizio Romana suggested that the winger “is *not* moving in January. The race will be on again next summer and #MUFC are expected to be involved.”
