Don’t limit visa ban to election riggers alone, SERAP tells US, others
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the US, UK and EU to not limit their via ban to the punishment of election riggers alone.
WuzupNigeria recalls that the US and the UK warned that politicians who engage in election malpractice will face visa restrictions.
This is contained in statements issued ahead of the Edo and Ondo States governorship elections.
It is learnt that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, and a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, are on a list of politicians banned from entering the US.
In reaction to the news, SERAP stated that such a ban should also serve as a punishment for politicians violating human rights.
SERAP tweeted: “We urge the US, UK, and EU to expand their visa ban beyond suspected election riggers to cover public officials and politicians contributing to grave human rights violations, repression of media freedom and civic space, and attack on the rule of law in Nigeria.”
