A Nigerian man identified as Ajero Morgan has shared a piece of vital advice on why men need to protect their wives from being an object of ridicule to their family members.
He advised that husbands should never allow their family members to become comfortable with disrespecting their wives, and he gave reasons.
It is a common occurrence in African homes to see wives being at loggerheads with members of their husband’s family, especially the mother-in-law. Their differences are mostly caused by a struggle for the man’s attention between the wife and mother-in-law.
Morgan took to Twitter on Thursday morning to share a thread where he tutored men on why they should stand and speak up for their wives whenever they are being attacked by their relatives.
Morgan, however, advised women to avoid open confrontation with their husband’s parents.
He tweeted:
“As a husband, never sit passively in a family meeting where your wife is put on the spot and accused or verbally abused by your parents, siblings or relatives when it’s an issue you ought to handle as the man. Here’s why? THREAD
“Irrespective of how your people feel about your wife, don’t let anyone, I mean anyone get comfortable with disrespecting her. If you do, you’ve lost your own respect without notice.
“As a man, you’ll need to learn how to communicate your thoughts to your loved ones and get the desired feedbacks. If you miss this, you’ll breed rebels and outsiders will assume that you need help.
“It’s your responsibility as the husband to call your wife to order when she’s out of it. And your family members should accord you that respect by first bringing cases of your wife’s misbehavior to you and allowing you the honor of handling it privately.
“Even if your wife is not responding positively to your counsels, it’s still wiser to bring in tested and trusted “married” friends into the matter than to publicly rebuke her or bring in your family members to judge her case.
“Wifey, don’t also make it difficult for hubby to fight for you. Be firm, but don’t openly confront his parents or siblings. Report any misgivings to him and accord him the respect of handling it. And if hubby is weak at it, then be his artificial intelligence.”
