Don’t give your pension to churches, mosques, Sanwo-Olu warns Lagos retirees

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu, has advised Lagos pensioners not to give their pension to religious institutions and grandchildren.

The governor made this statement in Lagos on Thursday while addressing the group at the 105th Retirement Benefit Bond Certificate Presentation Ceremony.

Sanwoolu said, “Your pension is your sweat; don’t let your children or grandchildren dictate how you should spend it. It is your sweat, and you can decide to spend it whichever way you want.

Don’t also lodge everything to your religious activities at your worship centres.

“They don’t double money anywhere again, don’t allow fraudsters to get to you.”

The Lagos state government had announced that they have effectively cleared all pension backlogs in Lagos State with the payment of ₦4,461,659,536.82 to 2,000 retirees.

Meanwhile at the event, the governor also launched a special Health Insurance Scheme tailored for all retirees in appreciation for their service to the state.

This health insurance scheme will be free to them and will also provide access to a wide range of medical needs, from routine check-ups to specialised treatments.

Sanwo-Olu said: “This initiative underscores our commitment to the well-being of our retirees while ensuring that they receive not only what is due statutorily but also additional support and assistance to enhance their lives in retirement.”
