A Lagos-based medical doctor, Dr. Ojo Oluwatosin Ademola, has accused the Lagos State Task Force, some individuals, and a finance company of disregarding a court order restraining them from trespassing on his land in Lekki.
Dr. Ademola has filed a Notice of Consequences of Disobedience of Court Order (Form 48) before a Lagos High Court against the Lagos State Task Force, Peter Omotosho, Mr. Tunji Solaja, and Starmark Finance Company Limited. He alleged that despite a subsisting court injunction, the defendants have continued to make attempts to take over his property.
In his motion, Dr. Ademola also sought to prevent the law firm of Lawal Pedro (SAN) & Associates from representing Starmark Finance Company Limited in the case, arguing that Pedro, now the Attorney General of Lagos, could have a conflict of interest.
He prayed the court to “set aside the order for change of counsel” that allowed the firm to represent the finance company in the dispute.
The Lagos High Court had earlier granted an interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants from “trespassing, harassing, or carrying out any activities whatsoever on the land” situated at Plot 1, Block 4, Lekki Peninsula, Scheme 1, Admiralty Road, Eti-Osa, Lagos. The court also barred them from using force, including police or government agencies, to intimidate the doctor or interfere with his property rights.
Despite this ruling, Dr. Ademola claimed the defendants continued their actions. “Shockingly, despite the court’s injunction and the Director of Public Prosecution’s advice for prosecution of the alleged offenders, the land grabbers continued their attempts to seize the property,” he said.
“They have employed the service of police several times, which we resisted, realising that we have genuine documents and a court order over the said parcel of land.”
The matter has been adjourned until April 10, 2025, when the court is expected to hear Dr. Ademola’s application for committal proceedings (Form 49) against the alleged offenders.
The medical doctor has called on President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Inspector General of Police to intervene urgently.
He warned that the continued threats to his property could derail his plan to build a specialist hospital that would serve Lagosians and Nigerians.
According to him, he legally purchased the land from Churchgate Nigeria Ltd in 2020 and perfected the title with the Governor’s consent and registration at the Lagos State Bureau of Lands.
His lawyer, Mr. Ayodele Osanyinlusi, added that all necessary building approvals had been obtained from relevant state agencies, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority.
Dr. Ademola insists that the law is on his side and is determined to fight any unlawful takeover of his property.
