BOko Haram dominance in Nigeria

Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and an ardent critic of the President, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has publicly pleaded with the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, to spare the life of Pastor Bulus Yikura, who is in their custody.

The Christian cleric was abducted on Christmas eve – December 24, 2020, when Boko Haram attacked Pemi village in the Chibok local government area of Borno State.

According to a video released by Yikura’s abductors days ago, the Federal Government has seven days to negotiate his release or face execution. According to the abductors, the countdown started on February 24 and ends on March 4.

“My name is Bulus Yikura from EYN LCC 1. This is a call to our leader President Muhammadu Buhari, the governor of Borno State and our local council chairman to come to my rescue. I have been given only seven days to appeal for assistance that will help me out of this torture.

“If truly you want to rescue me from this untold suffering and threat to life, then you have to act fast. I am also calling on the EYN president to help mobilise help that will rescue me, and also pray for me so that God will make things easy for me here,” the cleric said in the video.

A hooded individual added that “if you are interested in him then we have given you one week to respond and rescue him. This coming Thursday is the end of the one week grace we have given; if you don’t act before then, your regrets will only be useless for him and you.”

Reacting to the issue on Twitter, Omokri urged the abductors not to kill the pastor by asking them to show mercy.

“Mallam Shekau, I write you in the language of the prophet (SAW). Please do not kill pastor Bulus Yikura. Remember the first Hijra of Muslims and how Abyssinian Christians saved them from the Quraysh. Show mercy to Pastor Yikura, the way Habesha Christians showed mercy to Muslims,” Omokri tweeted.
