Published

A man has reportedly killed his mother in Nnewi, Anambra State over noodles.

Wuzup Naija gathered that 40-year-old Chinedu Ikegwuonwu and his mother, Mrs Bene Ikegwuonwu, 70, had disagreed over what to cook for breakfast on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at Okpunoeze village in Uraugu community of Nnewi, Anambra State.

While the deceased was preparing yam porridge for the breakfast, his son said he preferred noodles.

“An argument ensued over the choice for the breakfast. The mother went to the kitchen to prepare yam porridge for breakfast, without suspecting anything.

” But shortly after that, pandemonium ensued and when we rushed to know what happened, the man had killed the mother in the kitchen,” a source reportedly told the Punch.

Another family source who said he should not be identified said the deceased had been having issues with the mother.

“The shocking incident happened this morning after a disagreement which is yet to be ascertained.”

“The son after killing his own mother while she was cooking, abandoned her on the ground in a pool of her blood.

“The police authorities have been alerted of the development by neighbours”, the source stated.

However, Wuzup Naija heard another version of the circumstances leading to the death of the deceased. It gathered that the duo had an altercation over a piece of land belonging to the suspect’s younger brother.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, said the deceased was cooking when her son allegedly approached surreptitiously from behind and slit her throat with a machete.

“The suspect left the house immediately after the incident, leaving behind his wife and son,” the source added.

The late woman is said to be blessed with four boys and three girls, one of who died recently in a fatal accident.

A family member, who pleaded anonymity, said the suspect returned to Nnewi from a failed business in Aba, Abia.

The source said that the suspect had had a running battle with his mother over his attempt to grab his younger brother’s land.

“The woman gave Chinedu some money to raise the foundation of his building because he was unable to do anything about it after a year and half.

“She even went to the extent of taking money from her late daughter’s bank account for the suspect to complete his building after which he then turned around to take over a portion of land belonging to his younger brother,” the source said.

When contacted, Mr Haurna Mohammed, the state Police Public Relations Officer, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, noting that the police had launched an investigation into the case.
