American music mogul Sean Combs, popularly known as Diddy, was reportedly attacked by a fellow inmate at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The 55-year-old rapper allegedly woke up one night to find a knife pressed to his throat, according to his longtime friend, Charlucci Finney.

Finney told the Daily Mail that Diddy “woke up with a knife to his throat” but could not confirm whether he fought off the attacker or if prison guards intervened. “I just know that it happened,” he said.

He added that the attack appeared to be an attempt to intimidate the rapper rather than to cause real harm. “If this guy had wanted to hurt him, Sean would have been harmed. It would only take a second to cut his throat. It was probably a way to say, ‘Next time you won’t be so lucky.’ Everything is intimidation, but with Sean it won’t work. Sean is from Harlem,” Finney said.

Finney, who has known Diddy for more than 30 years, described him as “unbreakable,” adding, “He’s a lovable caregiver, a father, a brother, and my best friend. I’m confident he’s going to do whatever it takes to stay strong.”

Diddy’s lawyer, Brian Steel, had earlier mentioned the attack during the rapper’s sentencing, claiming that a guard intervened before the inmate could cause harm.

Combs is serving a four-year and two-month federal prison sentence after being convicted in July of two counts of violating the Mann Act, which involves transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. He was acquitted of more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.

The Bad Boy Records founder has been in MDC Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024. His legal team had asked for an early release, arguing that he had already spent over a year in one of America’s toughest prisons.

Diddy was also ordered to undergo mental health and substance abuse programs and pay a $500,000 fine.

His ex-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, in a letter to the court, urged the judge to impose a fair sentence, saying she still fears retaliation after her testimony against him. “As much progress as I have made in recovering from his abuse, I remain very much afraid of what he is capable of,” she wrote.

Prison officials have not publicly commented on the alleged attack.
