Desmond Elliot has dismissed speculations about dumping the All Progressives Congress, maintaining that his loyalty to the ruling party remains unwavering because it provided him with the platform to launch his political career.

Speaking during an interview on TVC while reacting to political developments in Surulere and talks surrounding a possible fourth-term bid in the Lagos State House of Assembly, the lawmaker stated that he would not defect to another political party, even if he fails to secure the APC ticket.

Elliot revealed that several people had advised him to consider joining another party if he was denied the opportunity to contest under the APC, but he rejected the suggestion, emphasizing the importance of loyalty in politics.

“So many people have called and said, ‘Hey, go to another party.’ I said, ‘Go to another party? How? Daddy picked me from nowhere,” he said.

The Surulere representative explained that the APC gave him the opportunity to grow politically at a time when he lacked a political structure of his own. He added that abandoning the party because of personal ambition would amount to betrayal.

Elliot further stated that he would peacefully accept the party’s decision if it eventually asks him to step aside, noting that he would support whoever emerges as the APC candidate.

“If the party says, ‘Desmond, you have done well, go and sit down,’ I will sit down and support whoever the party picks,” he added.
