The office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, has refuted a media report alleging that he had declared interest in contesting the Abia State governorship election in 2027.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Levinus Nwabugbiogu, said Kalu remains focused on delivering his four-year mandate of representing Bende Federal Constituency and serving Nigerians.

The statement demanded a retraction of the report by the media outlet involved, describing the publication as inaccurate and misleading to the public.

“We categorically state that the report is baseless, unfounded, and lacks credibility.

“The Deputy Speaker has not made any declaration, either privately or publicly, to contest for the governorship of Abia State in 2027,” he said.

The statement, however, added that the “political family” of the Deputy Speaker would make known his future political intentions at the appropriate time.
