Delta police rescues kidnap victim, neutralizes two robbers
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Wale Abass, successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, eliminated two suspected robbers and recovered arms and ammunition in the Ughelli South area of Delta State.
The feat was carried out by the Ekpan Divisional Police Officer, CSP Aliyu Shaba.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, provided details in a statement, stating, “On 30/12/2023 at about 1930hrs, a 23-year-old male (name withheld) parked his Black-colored GLK 350 Benz SUV along Jakpa Road leaving his brother (named withheld) inside the vehicle as he went about other activities.”
While the victim’s brother was away, armed men attacked the vehicle and drove off with it, along with the brother inside, prompting a swift response from the police.
Edafe explained, “Upon receipt of this information, the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Wale Abass PSC, directed the DPO Ekpan CSP Aliyu Shaba to mobilize operatives and ensure that the victim was rescued and the suspects arrested and brought to book.”
Based on intelligence, Shaba led a surveillance team to a bush at Ekakpamre, Ughelli-South LGA.
“Upon being sighted by the kidnappers, [the police] were staged to a serious gun duel, and in the process of the ensuing gun duel, two of the kidnappers were fatally injured, while one of them escaped with gunshot injuries,” Edafe stated.
The kidnapped victim was successfully rescued unharmed, and the police recovered the victim’s vehicle along with three firearms, including two single-barrel and one double-barrel guns, as well as two expended cartridges.
Edafe added, “Efforts are on to arrest the injured suspect who escaped.”
