Delta police arrest three kidnap suspects, recover explosives

The Police Command in Delta State has apprehended three kidnap suspects and seized a cache of weapons, including five packs of Improvised Explosive Devices.

DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesman, revealed these developments during a press briefing held on Monday in Warri.

The DSP stated; “Recall that about two months ago, the command arrested some suspected kidnappers, including Ese–Oghene Ezekiel”

“He masterminded the kidnap of his brother and members of his household at Oha Community, Okpe Local Government Area, when Regina Ogana, his brother’s wife was shot dead.

“The initial success notwithstanding, the Commissioner of Police in Delta, Wale Abass gave CSP Oboware, the marching orders, to ensure every other persons involved in the crime were brought to book.”

CSP Paul Oboware, the Divisional Police Officer of Orerokpe division, led a team from the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol to the arrest site.

The police arrested two male suspects in connection with the incident and proceeded to search their premises and hideouts.

During this search, they arrested another suspect. However, additional gang members managed to escape upon realizing the police’s approach.

Various weapons were recovered from the suspects’ hideout, including four AK-47 rifles, one pump-action shotgun, one locally made single-barrel cut-to-size pistol, 58 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, 13 live cartridges, five packs of IEDs, six detonators, and eight empty magazines.

The suspects were taken into custody on Friday by police operatives affiliated with the Orerokpe Division in the Okpe Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and other kidnapping incidents within the state, while efforts to locate the remaining gang members are underway.
