Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The defection occurred after a high-level, closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba, the state capital, on Wednesday.

Oborevwori, who defeated APC’s Ovie Omo-Agege in the 2023 governorship election, was reportedly received by APC chieftains in the state.

The development has been described as a political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This significant move is likely to have implications for the state’s political landscape and may impact the balance of power in the region.

The reasons behind Oborevwori’s defection are not yet clear, but it is likely that he will be welcomed by APC members who had previously clashed with him during the election.

As the situation continues to unfold, more details are expected to emerge about the governor’s decision and its potential consequences.
