The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer of Jesse Division in Ethiope East Local Government Area over an alleged N2.5 million extortion case.

The order followed a viral video in which a woman accused the DPO and two other officers of collecting money from her with the promise of securing her brother’s release from custody.

The two officers were identified as Bright and Usman, while the full name of the DPO was not disclosed.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri.

According to Edafe, the command became aware of the allegation through “a viral video recording of a woman” who accused the officers of extortion.

“The aggrieved woman alleged that one officer Bright, officer Usman and the DPO Jesse extorted from her the sum of N2,500,000 with the hope that her brother, who is presently in custody, would be released,” the statement said.

Explaining the background of the case, the police spokesman said the incident began on January 1, 2026, when the youth leader of Jesse community arrested some suspects and handed them over to the police.

“Among the suspects was the narrator’s younger brother, later identified as Israel Onojeruo, aged 20 years,” Edafe stated.

He said Israel was arrested based on the confession of another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who allegedly claimed he sold a gun to him.

“The suspects were later transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation,” he added.

On the extortion allegation, Edafe said CP Adesola acted immediately after reviewing the complaint.

“The Commissioner of Police listened to the complaint and took immediate action. The CP ordered the AC X-Squad to investigate the allegation against the officers,” the statement said.

It added that the police constable identified as Bright in the video has been detained at the command headquarters, while the DPO has been removed from Jesse Division and redeployed to the command headquarters pending the outcome of the investigation.

The statement further noted that the redeployment was also “in response to a series of complaints of extortion and unprofessionalism levelled against him from different quarters.”

CP Adesola assured the public that appropriate action would be taken if the officers were found guilty.

“If, after investigation, the officers are found to have acted in an unprofessional manner, they will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the extant laws as stipulated in the Police Act and regulations to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.

The police boss stressed that the Delta State Command “will not tolerate any form of extortion, intimidation, incivility to members of the public, or unprofessionalism from officers in the command.”

He also urged members of the public to report cases of police misconduct through the Command Complaint Response Unit using the numbers 09011112311, 09155570008, 09064308018 and 09066575187.
