Matawalle swears in commissioners

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has revealed that some members of the Peoples Democratic Party were fully convinced that Zamfara State Governor. Bello Matawalle had his mindset on defecting to the All Progressives Congress.

WuzupNigeria reported that Matawalle was the latest Governor to dump the PDP for the APC about two months after his Cross River State counterpart, Ben Ayade.

Recall that The PUNCH in April reported that six PDP Governors visited Zamfara State in an effort to persuade Governor Matawalle not to join the All Progressives Congress.

The governors, including Wike, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, Umar Fintiri of Adamawa State and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, were in Government House Gusau and spent several hours with Matawalle who was alleged to have concluded arrangements to defect to the APC.

Speaking on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today which was monitored by WuzupNigeria, Wike said that he was disappointed byMatawalle’s decision to join the APC.

“Let me start is this way before I go into being disappointed or not when we got to Gusau, we knew that he had made up his mind… it won’t be as if we heard of it and we didn’t make any effort to talk to him. With all due respect to him, he had no excuse, nothing terrible to present on why he wanted to leave.

“I must state this clearly… he said, ‘look, the governor of Rivers State, I’m not happy, every time you come out and defend Benue State but you’re not defending me’, what has that got to do with the party, assuming that it is correct? so we knew, but we’ve done what we’re supposed to do.

“Yes, I’m disappointed, how would you do that to a party that took everything to make sure you were elected, even when you knew in that elections, they did not challenge you that you won or you were rigged out and I knew from day one, the day supreme court gave him that judgement… As far as we’re concerned we’re politicians, we wish him good luck but it also tells you of the credibility and integrity of people.

“I can’t believe that APC would be celebrating that they got Mattawale whom they have accused of non-performance in that same state, How do you celebrate a man that you have accused of non-performance?
