Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed Jose Mourinho’s potential replacement at AS Roma.

Mourinho was sacked by Roma on Tuesday following a poor run of form with the team this season. Roma has won just one out of their last six Serie A games, currently sitting in the ninth position in the league.

In a tweet via his X account after Mourinho was dismissed, Romano disclosed that Roma has already contacted their former player Daniele de Rossi to take over as their new head coach.

“Contacts already taking place between AS Roma and Daniele de Rossi as a potential new head coach,” Romano tweeted.

“De Rossi, keen on this possibility as he always had the dream to return to the club.

“Final decision expected soon.”

De Rossi, who is favored to make a return to Roma and replace Mourinho, is currently 40 years old and has limited coaching experience.

He made over 600 appearances in Roma’s midfield and has previously worked with the Italian federation and Serie B side SPAL, though the latter sacked him a year ago.

The dismissal of Mourinho came after Roma’s 3-1 defeat to AC Milan, with the Portuguese manager serving a suspension and not present in the dugout.

This followed a series of setbacks, including a red card during Roma’s draw with Atalanta on January 7 and a subsequent 1-0 loss to rivals Lazio in the Rome derby last week.

In addition to De Rossi, other potential candidates for the head coaching role at Roma include former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte and Graham Potter, formerly of Chelsea and Brighton. Talks and considerations are currently underway as the club seeks to make a decision in the near future.
