Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa says she has forgiven the content creator who falsely claimed she was HIV positive, ending weeks of tension between the two.

Back in July, Amusa had vowed to make an example of him, calling out bloggers and content creators for spreading unverified stories that hurt people and their families. She even reported him to the police.

But in a video shared on Instagram, the actress explained why she chose to let go.

“I am making this video regarding the peddling issue about myself and a content creator who defamed my character and put out wrong information about my HIV status, which has gone viral and has had people have different opinions about me. I did promise to make him a scapegoat, which I did, but I realise he just lost his mum, he is a 27-year-old boy, and I got to meet his relatives – his uncle, the lawyer,” she said.

Amusa added that meeting his family changed her perspective and made her realise the importance of mercy.

In the video caption, she wrote, “CASE CLOSED. To err is human, to forgive is divine. Making mistakes is a natural and inherent part of being human, they say. LET’S BE GUIDED.”

The reconciliation comes after months of public debate about defamation and the toll of false rumours in the entertainment industry.

Earlier this year, media personality Denrele Edun also revealed he was once wrongly labelled HIV positive, while actress Uche Ogbodo recalled similar experiences when she battled an undisclosed illness.

Amusa, who previously opened up about surviving an abusive relationship, urged the public to think carefully before spreading harmful stories.
