Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he started life in a modest one-room apartment, commonly referred to as a face-me-I-face-you compound.

The singer made the revelation in a track titled CFMF off his newly released fifth studio album, 5ive, which dropped on Friday.

In the song, Davido credits his rise to fame and fortune to divine intervention, singing about his journey from humble beginnings to a life of luxury.

“Take a step and walk into my life…
Started all the way from face me I face you
And now, I am living real large all thanks to Jesu
All thanks to Jesu oh,” he sings.

The lyrics have sparked mixed reactions, especially on social media, where users have questioned the authenticity of the claim. Davido is widely known as the son of billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Deji Adeleke, a fact that has long been public knowledge.

While fans continue to praise the track’s lyrical depth and production, others have expressed skepticism about the singer’s account of his early struggles, citing his affluent background. The debate has added another layer of attention to the album, which already features high-profile collaborations and a mix of personal storytelling and vibrant rhythms.
