Afrobeats star Davido has named Asake, Rema and Omah Lay as the artistes he believes could become the next greatest figures in Nigerian music.

The singer made the statement on Wednesday during a live appearance on comedian and content creator Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream, which has since gone viral across social media platforms.

When asked to mention who he sees as the next “GOAT” in the music industry, Davido said, “Right now, for me, I say, between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema. If you ask me. I think they’ve done exceptionally well.”

He clarified that his comment focused on male artistes, while also recognising the success of top female stars in the industry.

“Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr, stuff like that. I’m talking about males. Those three, killing it, you know what I’m saying,” he said.

Davido also praised the impact and work rate of the three singers, describing them as artistes pushing Nigerian music to new heights.

“Omah Lay, obviously, my brother. Rema, love him so much. Asake, have so much love for him as well. They’re all doing amazingly well,” he said.

Speaking on their growing international influence, the singer highlighted how visible their success has become outside Nigeria.

“Especially like globally. Like it’s just amazing to just be in America and just see them. You know what I’m saying. It is not easy o,” Davido added.

Davido, who is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Afrobeats’ global rise, has often spoken about legacy and the importance of Nigerian artistes making lasting global impact.

The debate over who qualifies as the greatest of all time in Afrobeats has continued to generate discussion, especially as Nigerian music gains stronger footing on international charts, festivals and award stages.

With artistes like Asake, Rema and Omah Lay enjoying global recognition, many fans believe the next era of Afrobeats greatness is already taking shape.
