Afrobeats superstar Davido has lost a $50,000 (approximately ₦75 million) bet after Nigeria’s defeat to Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final.

The singer had placed a high-stakes wager predicting that both teams would score during regulation time, with odds that could have returned $348,274.07. However, the match ended goalless after 120 minutes, with Morocco winning 4-2 on penalties.

Davido shared a screenshot of his bet slip on social media before the match, showing he staked $50,000 on a parlay requiring Nigeria to win within 90 minutes, both teams to score, and over 1.5 total goals. None of these conditions were met.

The loss adds to the disappointment of Nigeria’s exit from the tournament. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali saved one penalty, but misses from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi sealed the Super Eagles’ fate.

Davido, known for his enthusiastic sports betting tied to national pride, had previously promised to double his stake if Nigeria reached the final. He also celebrated a major win during Nigeria’s group stage match against Tanzania in December 2025.

Morocco’s victory sends them to the final against Senegal, while Nigeria will face Egypt in the third-place playoff on Saturday.
