Nigerian superstar Davido has been accepted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organisation in charge of the Grammy Awards.
This means the Afrobeats singer will now take part in the process of nominating and voting for winners ahead of the 2026 ceremony.
The Recording Academy confirmed the news on Tuesday in an Instagram post that featured Davido alongside other new members.
The post read, “Creating a song or an album takes heart, time, and dedication. That’s why Recording Academy members, including Davido, Ravyn Lenae, Offset, Jessie Reyez, Zac Brown Band, Anne Akiko Meyers, Miles Minnick, Maya Elizabeth, Damien Sneed, Damaris Musica, and Stewart Copeland are sharing why your participation matters.”
Reacting to the development, Davido described it as a major turning point in his career. “Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the Grammy Award process. It is a game-changer. I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting,” he said in a video shared by the Academy.
Davido, who earned three Grammy nominations in 2024, got his fourth in 2025 for Best African Music Performance with his Chris Brown and Lojay collaboration, Sensational. The song lost to Tems’ Love Me Jeje.
He admitted that while he has yet to win a Grammy, joining the Academy is “a gamechanger” for him and for African music.
The Recording Academy has in recent years expanded its membership to include more international acts, especially from Africa. Davido’s inclusion adds to the growing influence of Afrobeats on the global stage.
