The mother of singer Davido’s first child, Sophia Momodu, has spoken out after she was accused of blocking their daughter, Imade, from joining recent family events.

Davido turned 33 last week, and his wife, Chioma, organised a private dinner for him in Lagos. His daughter Hailey was present.

Over the weekend, Davido’s older brother, Nicholas Adeleke, also had his wedding in Atlanta, with many of the Adeleke grandchildren in attendance.

Imade was not seen at both events, which led to heavy criticism of Sophia online.

Responding in a statement shared on Monday, Sophia said social media users had been spreading wrong claims about her. She said, “The internet has become a place where false stories spread fast. I need to make things clear.”

She explained that she has been raising Imade on her own for the past five years. She said, “I have handled every expense for my child except school fees, which her grandparents have paid for three years. I have not received child support from her father but my child knows no lack She is growing in a healthy environment and is very happy.”

Sophia also said she waived all past child support payments and agreed not to make future claims. According to her, this means she has taken full responsibility for Imade’s daily needs. She described it as a decision that “worked for both sides.”

Davido had earlier shared photos of himself and Imade in May, saying it was their first proper reunion in a long time. In June, the former couple attended Imade’s tenth birthday party, though they kept their distance during the event.

Last year, Davido went to court seeking joint custody, accusing Sophia of denying him access and demanding money from him. She rejected the claims and opposed joint custody. She argued that certain circumstances, including the loss of Davido’s son, made her concerned about their daughter’s safety.

Their relationship grew tense after Davido publicly confirmed his romance with Chioma. Sophia later posted messages online complaining about emotional and financial pressure.

In her new statement, she asked the public to stop pushing stories that are not true. She said, “I have never kept my daughter away from anyone. I simply focus on giving her a stable life.”
