Popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, known as Davido, has given his fellow artist, Oyindamola Emmanuel, also known as Dammy Krane, a 24-hour ultimatum to retract offensive statements made against him on social media.
Davido’s lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, issued a letter warning Dammy Krane to comply with the demands or face legal action.
The lawyer stated that Dammy Krane must “remove and retract the offensive publication from all your social media platforms” and “immediately refrain from any further publication of defamatory statements against our client on any platform whatsoever.”
This action follows recent posts by Dammy Krane on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he insinuated that Davido’s forthcoming wedding to Chioma Rowland was only planned because she caught him cheating. Dammy Krane tweeted, “Never get married because your Gail caught you cheating you wan gbe-iya-wo (carry suffer look) congratulations owe b owe.”
Davido’s lawyer highlighted the seriousness of the allegations, stating that these posts were defamatory and constituted cyberbullying. The letter, numbered REF: OC/EXT/VOL/127/2024, emphasized Davido’s global reputation and the potential harm caused by these false statements.
“Our client has further informed us that whilst in Abuja, he became aware of the latest in your series of defamatory posts, which is your publication of June 21, 2024, which you caused to be published on your X (formerly ‘Twitter’) page using the handle @dammy_krane,” the letter read.
The lawyer added, “Your conduct in publishing these statements, despite knowing them to be false, is not only malicious but also orchestrated to defame and injure the reputation of our client, a globally recognized music star.”
The letter also mentioned that Dammy Krane’s posts had gained significant traction, attracting negative comments and reactions globally.
Dammy Krane had previously fallen out with Davido over alleged unpaid debts. The situation has escalated with these recent defamatory posts, leading Davido to take legal action to protect his reputation.
If Dammy Krane fails to comply within 24 hours, Davido will “pursue all available legal remedies, including but not limited to initiating legal proceedings against you for damages and injunctive relief, and escalating this matter to the relevant law enforcement agencies.”
