Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, Popularly known as Davido, has released a statement instructing his lawyers to institute a legal action against Kenya’s K24 Digital over a story deemed defamatory.

K24 Digital on Monday 1st of April, in a now deleted post published a story, saying “Nigerian musician Davido detained at JKIA after Ksh18M cocaine haul found in his private jet’ falling on April Fool’s Day, many flagged it and ignored it as such. However, the velocity of the good article escalated as many took is as real news and was even republished in numerous blogs outside Kenya.”

The report stated Davido was arrested by police on Sunday alongside his seven crew members and were held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following a search on his private jet, where narcotic drugs were found while adding that Davido and his crew were arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Police Unit at JKIA.

However, Davido left Kenya on Sunday, after a night of performance at the Raha Fest, which was held in Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi on Saturday night.

The statement reads “Fam, it has come to my attention that false reports regarding an arredrncirculated online on April 1st, which has since led to a barrage of calls. I want yo assure you my fans that these reports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Ugnada and Kenya and have since retuned home to Nigeria.

“I’d also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career,” he said.

He stated that the report is highly irresponsible regardless of the alleged “April Fool” prank and will be seeking legal steps against K24 Digital.
