Award-winning Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, on Sunday inaugurated a newly built female hostel at Clifford University in Abia State, named in honour of his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke.

The commissioning took place during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, where Davido also delivered a commencement address to the graduating students.

In a post shared on his official X handle, Davido reflected on the significance of the moment, urging graduates to lead lives of purpose and impact.

“When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power,” he wrote. “I told them that talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning.”

Describing the hostel dedication as a deeply personal tribute, the music star explained that the project reflects his mother’s lifelong passion for education and humanitarian service.

“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and giver who believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” he stated.

Davido was accompanied at the event by friend and nightlife entrepreneur, Cubana Chief Priest, who also made a philanthropic gesture by pledging to cover the tuition fees of 50 students at the institution.

Clifford University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Chimezie Omeonu, commended Davido for his support of education and for inspiring a generation of young Africans to pursue excellence and impact-driven goals.

The ceremony concluded with the formal ribbon-cutting of the newly named Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, witnessed by university officials, guests, and students.
