Nigerian music stars Davido, Burna Boy, and Omah Lay have been nominated for the 2026 Grammy Awards, strengthening Africa’s presence on the global music stage.
The Recording Academy released the full nomination list on Friday ahead of the award ceremony scheduled for February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Kendrick Lamar leads this year’s nominations with nine nods, followed by Lady Gaga with seven. Pop hitmakers Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter received six nominations each.
In the Best African Music Performance category, Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido’s “With You” featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat” featuring Wizkid, and Eddy Kenzo’s “Hope & Love” featuring Mehran Matin were among the nominated songs. South African star Tyla also earned a nomination for “Push 2 Start.”
This year’s Grammy ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
Last year’s edition saw Beyoncé clinch her long-awaited Album of the Year award for “Cowboy Carter,” while Kendrick Lamar took home five trophies, including Song and Record of the Year for “Not Like Us.”
The 2026 Grammy nominations have sparked excitement among fans across Africa, with many celebrating the growing influence of Nigerian music on global platforms.
