Dangote Group has announced a series of strategic technical partnerships to support the next phase of its fertiliser expansion in Nigeria, as well as the development of new plants in Ethiopia.
The Group said the collaborations mark an important milestone in its long-term plan to bolster regional food security, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen Africa’s role in the global fertiliser market.
Through these partnerships, Dangote Group will raise its urea production capacity in Nigeria from the current three million metric tons to nine million metric tons annually.
The existing plant operates two trains with a combined capacity of three million metric tons. The expansion will add four more trains, positioning the Group to meet increasing demand for high-quality fertiliser across Africa and beyond.
Alongside its Nigerian expansion, the Group recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a $2.5bn fertiliser plant in Gode, Ethiopia.
The new Ethiopian plant is designed to produce three million metric tons of urea per year and represents a major step in the Group’s efforts to reinforce food security and industrial growth across the continent.
To deliver world-class facilities with cutting-edge technology and operational excellence, Dangote Group has signed partnership agreements with Topsoe, which will provide ammonia technology licensing and full process design packages for six ammonia plants.
According to the Group, four of the plants will be located in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia. Topsoe is globally recognised for its advanced ammonia process technologies that promote efficient and environmentally responsible production.
Saipem will supply technology licensing and the complete process design package for urea melt units across all six plants—four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia. Saipem’s deep engineering expertise and long-standing experience in fertiliser production systems will support the projects.
Additionally, Thyssenkrupp’s UFT division will provide granulation technology licensing and full process design packages for granulation units in all six plants, enabling the production of premium-grade urea suitable for both domestic and export markets.
Meanwhile, Engineers India Limited has been appointed as project management consultant and engineering procurement and construction management consultant for the four fertiliser plants being developed by DFFZE in Lekki, Nigeria. Engineers India is known for its proficiency in large-scale industrial engineering and project execution.
According to Dangote, these partnerships underscore the Group’s commitment to building high-quality industrial assets that meet the world’s most stringent standards. The planned expansion will boost regional urea and ammonia output, generate employment, strengthen agricultural value chains, and support sustainable economic growth in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and the wider continent.
Dangote Group said it remains committed to developing resilient industrial capacity, supporting national development goals, and fostering strong global collaborations that advance Africa’s long-term prosperity.
