The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has quietly reduced the cost of petrol by offering a N10 refund to its customers after loading the product.
Sources confirmed on Monday, May 12, 2025, that while marketers still pay N835 per litre at the refinery, they now get a N10 rebate once they successfully load and evacuate the fuel. This brings the effective price down to N825 per litre.
“The Dangote refinery has started giving a rebate on its products. It’s not an official reduction yet, but paid back after marketers buy products from them,” a source said.
This price move has helped Dangote’s customers sell petrol at between N830 and N835 per litre, which is cheaper than what some private depot owners and fuel importers offer.
Just last month, Dangote refinery cut its gantry price twice in one week, dropping it from N880 to N835 per litre. This happened after the Federal Government resumed the Naira-for-Crude oil swap deal with local refiners.
That policy allows local refineries to buy crude oil using Naira instead of foreign currency, helping them cut production costs.
Efforts to reach the Dangote Group’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, for official comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
The new rebate adds pressure on private depot owners and fuel importers who are finding it hard to compete with Dangote’s pricing strategy.
